Leo Sayer

The tuy vậy for this post is titled, “You Raise Me Up”, by Josh Groban và as usual I always recommend that you listen khổng lồ the song before you continue khổng lồ read my post. Even if you have already heard this song before, I think listening to it helps to understand the tone of the singer’s voice và the message that is being conveyed through the lyrics.

Although this song is significantly well-known throughout Christian contemporary music, it is definitely not a common tuy vậy that mime teams typically minister with lớn an audience. However, the reason why I chose khổng lồ mime khổng lồ this song about 4 years ago was because of the distinct use of imagery that is used in the chorus.

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.

You raise me up to lớn walk on stormy seas.

I am strong when I am on your shoulders.

You raise me up to lớn more than I can be.

Through the use of imagery, the depiction of a person entirely relying on God lớn get him or her through the turmoil of day-to-day life is clearly represented. Since I had another mime ministering with me for this particular piece, one of us acted as God while the other acted as a struggling & confused man. When the chorus began, the mime representing God would physically help the other mime stand up onto a chair, which represented the action of standing on đứng đầu of a mountain. The message conveyed by this image is nearly identical to the message conveyed by the gospel tuy nhiên that I blogged about last week titled, “For Every Mountain”. In fact, now that I’m thinking about this similarity more, the message of God helping one to lớn overcome a specific trail in one’s life is a common theme presented by not only many gospel songs, but by many Christian songs in general. What better way to demonstrate the impossibility of overcoming a trial without the help of God’s strength than by visualizing a mountain that seems impossible to lớn climb to lớn the top.

Afterwards, the man would come down from the chair and represent water by moving his hands in a wave-like motion. However, the only reason why the man was able to walk on the “stormy sea” was because the mime representing God was making the same gesture behind him. Essentially, God is our lifeguard. Although this comparison may be trivial, I can easily relate to lớn it because I was a lifeguard during the previous two summers.

Not only was I a lifeguard, but I also taught swim classes to lớn little kids. After the lessons were over, it was very rewarding lớn see that some of my kids who I taught could actually swim better than when I first began khổng lồ teach them. Similar to lớn a lifeguard teaching little kids how to swim, God teaches us khổng lồ face our lives in a way that enables us khổng lồ fight against our fears và to overcome our negative circumstances.

Next, the man would raise his arms & flex his muscles lớn represent strength. However, the man knew that his power did not originate within himself but from God, which is why the man then directed his arms lớn God’s shoulders.

Lastly, the mime playing the role of God would help the mime playing the role of the struggling man khổng lồ raise his arms. This gesture depicted the image of a man who by himself, has restrictions & limits, but with God, discovers that his potential is far greater than he expected. The last line which says, “You raise me up to lớn more than I can be.” is an empowering message, yet for me, it instills a small sense of fear. The question of, “Will I be able lớn fulfill what God has called me lớn do?” creates worry within me because not only bởi I not want lớn let God down, but I also typically become anxious when I cannot entirely see the kết thúc goal. Two lessons can be derived from this previous question. First, no matter how hard I try not to, I sin on a regular basis, which means that I have and will continue to lớn let God down. However, I am not saying that because I know that I will inevitably sin, that that justifies intentional rejection of God’s commandments. Instead, what I am saying is that realizing that when I let God down by falling short of his orders, I have His unyielding grace to relieve me of my wrongdoing & guilt. Therefore, I should not allow worry lớn act as a roadblock from giving everything I have lớn fulfill God’s orders in my life. The second lesson that can be taken from this question is the act that God will never put more on my plate than I can bear. Therefore, through my faith in God, I should not be worried when I cannot see the end results because I know that He would have not ordered me khổng lồ complete a specific direction if He knew that I could not in fact complete it with the support of His guidance và wisdom.
